The hilltop campus of the USB is situated in Bellville, about halfway between the Cape Town central business district and the town of Stellenbosch – home of the USB’s mother institution, Stellenbosch University. The campus is located within easy reach of Cape Town International Airport (15 km). Shuttle busses between the conference hotels and USB campus will be provided – for details please see click on the “Registration and Hotels” tab above.

Cape Town International Airport

Cape Town International Airport is located in the north-east of Cape Town, about 15 km from the USB campus where the conference will be held . The campus and the conference hotels are thus within easy reach of Cape Town International Airport.

Various forms of public transportation, taxis, shuttle busses as well as car rental companies are available at the airport – for more information click here. Participants are advised to pre-book a taxi themselves. This can for example be done in advance via TOUR-ASSIST SOUTH AFRICA (please scroll to the bottom of this page for details). However, it is possible to arrange a taxi or shuttle bus upon arrival via the transportation desk is located in the arrivals area.


A certain number of rooms have been blocked in three selected hotels that are close to the USB campus where the conference will take place. During the conference, a bus shuttle service between these hotels and the campus will be provided. Shuttle busses between the conference hotels and USB campus will be provided. For details please see click on the “Registration and Hotels” tab above.

There are also various other accomodations in the vicinity of the USB campus. However, no transportation to and from campus will be provided for these accomodations. These accomodations can be found through various international, commercial hotel booking websites. A South African website is SA-Venues which provides links to hotels, B&B, appartments, etc in Cape Town. When making your own reservations, note that the USB campus is located in Bellville, one of Cape Town’s northern suburbs. 


Cape Town is located in the Western Cape region of South Africa and enjoys mild, rainy winters and hot summers.

Exploring the surrounding areas

Cape Town:

As a prime tourist destination, Cape Town and environs offer world-famous attractions, a well-established financial and business infrastructure, excellent medical facilities and a wide range of sports, entertainment, shopping and recreational facilities. Exploring Cape Town’s Attractions: Cape Town is home to the world-renowned Table Mountain & Cape Point, Robben Island, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the Cape beaches and the Mother City itself.

An hour’s drive or more:

The Western Cape offers excellent opportunities for day-trips and weekend excursions. Popular destinations include towns like Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl which are renowned for their cultural heritage, scenic beauty, winelands and mountains. Other destinations include the West Coast or the Garden Route and there are several private game reserves that offer the visitor an easy way to spot South Africa’s “Big 5”. Going on Safari:

South Africa is home to more than 20 national parks that offer the visitor a diverse experience of South Africa’s  nature and wildlife. Truly the flagship of South African national parks, Kruger National Park is easily accessible from Cape Town as South African Airlines operates daily flights to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. Visitors can explore the park in their own rental car, stay overnight in one of the many rest camps and participate in game drives, guided walks or bush braais. Organised safari tours are also available with a variety of options ranging from tented to luxury packages.
