Postponing Graduation

Postponement of Graduation is subject to approval of the Board of Examiners and has to be requested by you.

Postponement of graduation is always limited to a certain (maximum) period of time and is possible for students who are selected by the SBE:

  • to do a Double Degree programme;
  • to do an extracurricular internship (selected and approved by the Board of Examiners) in addition to your regular study programme requirements;
  • to do an extracurricular exchange/study abroad (selected and approved by the Board of Examiners) in addition to your regular study programme requirements.
  • to occupy an Executive function (approved by the Board of Examiners).

Beyond these reasons, postponement is only granted in exceptional cases.

Submission:
Please submit an official request to the Board of Examiners. Do not forget to include the reason for your request for postponement of graduation (including any relevant proof) and also make sure to take care of correct (re-)registration. Furthermore include your name, signature, ID number and study programme in any correspondence to the Board of Examiners.

Deadline. You have to submit a request for postponement of graduation ultimately two weeks before fulfilling your last exam requirement. This applies as well to students who intend to postpone their graduation for one of the above mentioned reasons.

You can submit your request at the Information Desk of the SBE. You can also send it to:

The Board of Examiners of SBE
Maastricht University
P.O. Box 616
6200 AD Maastricht

Decision:

The Board of Examiners will decide if your request for postponement of graduation may be granted or declined. You will receive a written decision as soon as possible, but ultimately within 4 weeks upon receipt of your request.

After a negative decision of the Board of Examiners (‘decline of postponement’) you will receive a final notification graduation email from the Exams Office upon graduation.

Upon a positive decision of the Board of Examiners (‘granted postponement’) you will receive a final notification graduation email from the Exams Office when you have met all the requirements to graduate.
