Bachelor programme Economics and Business Economics – Specialisation Economics 2015-2016

After the first year, Economics and Business Economics students must choose a specialisation in either:

B.1     Economics,

B.2     Economics and Management of Information;

B.3.    Emerging Markets; or

B.4     International Business Economics.

For the four specialisations, the curricula will differ. As such, the second year consists of (compulsory) courses specifically designed for each specialisation. In the third year, there is some room for personal accents through the choice of a specific major and/or elective courses. Moreover, a personal touch can be given by the choice of courses during the obligatory half-year study abroad (if applicable).

The Bachelor’s thesis concludes the programme. The overview tables show the general outline of the programmes.

Choice of study direction:

All Economics  and  Business Economics students have to indicate their specialisation via ‘My UM’ portal before the start of the second year.

Students will be informed about this during the Study Choice Information Day (period 5). Instructions are available on ELEUM.

IMPORTANT – Specialisation Emerging Markets

Students can only participate in this specialisation after they have been selected and have met the admission criteria.

Students admitted to the specialisation Emerging Markets will be registered for the specialisation.

In the first year, Bachelor International Business students can apply for the specialisation Emerging Markets.

The selection process begins with an information session in February, then takes place during April and May. Student who have passed all courses in BP1 (first sit or resit) can participate in the selection process. The second year consists of four compulso­ry courses for the Emerging markets specialisation (one it each period), and four courses chosen from the regular International Business programme. The third year consists of a combination of elective business courses, and courses on the business and economics of specific regions such as Asia and Latin America

Master Financial Economics 2015-2016

This Master programme consists of different Specialisations.

Students should register for their  Specialisation via My UMPortal. This is a separate action to be taken, next to your course registrations.

Without a registration for your specialisation, you will not be able to register for your skills training writing a Master Thesis proposal (period 3 or 6).

To determine that you meet the graduation requirements, a registration for you specialisation is necessary. If you wish to graduate without a specialisation, you can select the option ‘No specialisation’. Next to that, in order to have your Specialisation listed on your final transcript, it is necessary that you register your Specialisation.
